The professional development and progression of our team and ambitious future business growth plans mean that we are looking to fill some senior positions within the company; one of these is an experienced Scientific Director to join the medical practice in a scientific leadership role.

You will be a key driver overseeing internal and external programs and support scientific excellence within the company. You will ensure strategic brand alignment, drive quality, and deliver complex multi-stakeholder engagement programs.


Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing strategic direction and scientific leadership in our Med Comms team, which will include supporting new business by identifying and driving organic growth, and leading on Requests for Proposals (RfPs) from a strategic scientific perspective
  • Guiding our team, particularly Principal Medical Writers, to ensure alignment to brief and that the clients’ strategic priorities are served by the outputs from the team as a whole
  • Ensuring that there is a career development path for all writers on their accounts through direct or indirect line management; support the implementation of training plans and the identification of any other training needs across the medical team to further develop the writing skills of our team
  • Reviewing project briefs, providing guidance on how to align with client strategy and Statement of Works, and proactively identifying ways to mitigate risk of overages
  • Leading client relationships as a trusted advisor—providing scientific/strategic counsel and recommended approaches, and ad hoc support to others as needed
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to effectively manage client requests and needs by identifying solutions that minimize impact on scope and/or alignment with strategy
  • Driving teamwide adherence to operational processes by communicating and collaborating effectively across all departments and projects
  • Through effective management, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional development while supporting the drive for teams to think critically about how to develop focused, inspired, strategic and efficient content
  • Partnering with HR to spearhead recruitment drives for AXON
  • Advocating for AXON by modeling our values in every internal and external touchpoint.

Candidate must have:

  • At least 8 to 10 years’ relevant experience spent at strategic level in a scientific, medical, or pharma communications agency environment overseeing accounts, with at least three of those years leading cross-functional teams
  • A degree or PhD in a scientific field (e.g., chemistry, pharmacology, biology)
  • Ability to confidently lead client accounts/projects and have strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize appropriately
  • Excellent financial, timeline management, strategic, and analytical capabilities
  • Impeccable writing, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail and continuously striving for excellent quality control, instilling high standards in others
  • A results-orientated attitude at all times, with excellent analytical capabilities
  • Excellent thought leadership and relationship development skills, including client management and networking, with the ability to identify and capitalize on client challenges to drive new business opportunities
  • A strong drive to develop as an individual, and have excellent collaboration skills to work within a team
  • Passionate about science and healthcare.
